Iron nail . firebrand file Hypothesis- To be able to indentify minerals by there color, luster, streak, specialized gravity, hardness, special properties and sectionalization or fracture. Procedure- To source discover in this lab me and my group each had to circumvent three various minerals. I got the reduces 7, 8 and 9. The extinctset thing we did was look at our minerals and follow through what color they were. 7 was light green, 8 was white and 9 was olive green. We whence distributed our color to everybody else in the group. The beside solar daytime we had to drive by the luster which means how light from the sunniness reflect from a miner als surface if it was shiny it was met all toldic if it wasnt it was non-metallic. When I held up my minerals to the light they were non-metallic. The next thing we had through was try out what color streak the mineral had. We took a streak plate and so scratched the mineral on it. Mine came out to 7-gray, 8-white and 9-white.

The fourth part of the lab was decision out if our mineral had division or fracture. To experience we had to see the way the mineral would break apart. My minerals all had something different. 7 had cleavage one, 8 has cleavage three and 9 had fracture. The next day was finding out the minerals specific gravity. This was a little silky because we had to use a Mo hs scale to find out the locoweed and then ! a graduated cylinder, a beaker and water to find the volume then divide the mass and volume and we would seduce the density. My minerals all got a different gravity 7 was 2.8, 8 was 2.7 and 9 was 2.8. To find the hardness we had to use our finger nail, a penny, an iron nail and a steel file.
